SXSW Friday - March 16th, 2007
Day Three of SXSW 2007. I only did the night shows on Wednesday and Thursday but today I took the day off from work to catch some day shows. Julie was visiting from New Orleans and Kate and Jason were jobless so they joined me!
We started at the Belmont and saw The Besnard Lakes and Everybody Else before heading over to the Jane party when Jason joined us.
Kate relaxes with a beer at noon.
I had a wristband this year.
We went over to the Jane party to hear Earl Greyhound and chug some free drinks. I'd seen them at the ACL studio recording for KEXP and wanted to check them out again. They were awesome!
I'm not sure why Jason is suspicious. But he sure is.
That guy is so hot.
Hangin' by the porta-potties. We saw Kamara from Earl Greyhound come out of one a few minutes after this and she stopped and talked to us for a while. Her boyfriend is from Lubbock.
Back to the Belmont to see the New Frontiers (Jason and I were at a wedding with Nathan the lead singer last year so we wanted to come say hi) and Sondre Lerche (yay!).
Kate (reading some religious literature we got on the street) and Julie relaxing on the balcony.
I saw Sondre Lerche hanging out down on the patio and Jason declared that he was taking my picture with him. So we trooped down there and I asked him if he would mind. It turned out pretty well! I was so excited.
The New Frontiers from the balcony.
Yum, Lone Star.
Me, Nathan, and Jason.
The first of a million pictures of Sondre. Look how close we were!
For some reason the tables were covered with a million promotional condoms that said 'Van Wilder' on them. Julie blows one up!
Julie totally stole this Paste magazine freebie bag from a table.
Tilly and the Wall played next.
Our wall spot.
Jason can't believe Julie got that bag!
Is that ... Sondre Lerche??
Our wall neighbors.
Kate starts the texting.
A good one!
Our wall neighbors thought I needed decorations.
Back to the Jane party to see Sloan. We ran into Buddy Llamas from the Small Stars while we were waiting for them to start.
Sloan.
Julie and Kate watching Sloan.
By the time Sloan finished playing we'd been listening to music for 7 hours. Also getting less than 5 hours of sleep two nights in a row and free beer had caught up to me, so I gave Kate the keys and we headed back to the CPB for dinner. I was asleep by 10pm and didn't get to see any night shows. But I was well rested for Saturday which worked out well since I was out from about 11am to 2am.
